10 days and counting

On multiple occasions the question has been raised, why a marathon?

Let me explain. I was raised by parents that did not encourage their girls to play sport. I attended my first dance class with Gay Thurston when I was five years old. I later joined Debbie Laing's Debutants and performed with them up until High School. I cheered for the CHS Redmen my Freshman year.

While my years of dance training prepared me for Club Vortex and The Bay in SLC, the only athletic advantage I still enjoy is Bench Step Aerobics. I can keep the beat and mimic moves with precision. Sadly, however all my formal training has proven to be pretty useless in terms of life skills.

Though there was this road show a few years back....

My desire to participate in the St. George Marathon is about developing skills, taking on a new challenge, finding a sport I can do with my husband, and never growing old.

While I may never be labeled "athletic" I am determined to get in the game, I don't want to live life as a spectator. I plan on sliding into home plate worn out, broken down, and totally exhausted.

The same way I'm going to look Saturday October 4th around 11:35 a.m.

That was hilarious! I can't get over the picture of all that HAIR! Don't get me wrong, I lived through the same time period, I just don't have all my pics around to laugh at, they're at my moms. I could hardly pick you out! Thanks for posting it! Totally made my evening. And I love the cheerleading shot. You are hot.

Those pictures are great! The Cedar big hair strikes again. I am embarrassed to say I have some similar photos. I wish I could catch some of your enthusiasm for running. Good luck, maybe we will see you while you are in town.

I recognize that hair from somewhere... hmm... oh, yeah- I had that hair too! :) You are going to kick some bootay in that marathon and I can only HOPE that I will still be doing anything like a marathon one day when I have a beautiful family like you. Good luck, love you! :)

Oh dear . . . I honestly miss that hair style! In some ways it was easier . . . tease, poof, spray, tease again! Ahhhhh - the good 'ole days!

Love the photos! Other than the hair style, you still look the same!! I can totally relate to trying to find your sport. I spent all my free time growing up in ballet class. Of course you had to pick running marathons... you're an inspiration!!

I love the way you described that you don't want to be a "spectator". Very poignant! I don't either!
